After waste and scrap material is gathered, the first process is to
- sort all different types of material. The important reason for the sorting is that eg. LDPE cannot be mixed with PP or PET. This will cause contamination and will render a batch un-reusable.
- Plastic objects are then being put through a "flaker" (similar to a wood-chipper), which cuts the material into small plastic flakes.
- The scrap/waste is then being put through a washing process where all unwanted objects, dirt, inks, glue, etc is being washed away.
- The flakes are then being put through a palletizing machine which heats up the flakes to a liquid state, then being extruded into pellets which is the acceptable raw-material state.
