The plastic blow-moulding and extrusion operation was established in 1982 by Commercial Investment Corporation (Pty) Ltd when they bought a few machines from Kroonstêr Melkery, the local dairy, who manufactured their own milk bottles. From these humble beginnings Plastic Packaging grew to a formidable manufacturer and supplier of a large range of packaging materials.
On 2 April 2001, the present management, in conjunction with other investors, bought the packaging division from Commercial Investment Corporation. We are now a totally independent private company, wholly-owned by Namibians and managed by its owners.
During the years, demand for additional branches & depots grew across the country. Our first branch was established in Walvis Bay during 1995. Luderitz branch followed in 1996 and Oshakati in 1999. Keetmanshoop was opened in 2002 and since then, only agents were appointed such as B & J Ondernemings in Okahandja (now called Visser & General) and Rundu.
During the course of 2003 we reached across the Orange River into South Africa and found that Upington would be a suitable area to settle. The need to expand internationally grew in 2004, thus Angola was next on the list with our first branch located in the city of Lubango in the south of the country. Benguela followed in 2005. As in Namibia, the demand for more branches grew and our Huambo branch was established in 2009. Our next major branch will be in the capital, Luanda and will be fully operational in the latter part of 2011.
Plastic Packaging Windhoek currently employs 250 Namibians. As group, we employ more than 500 people.
